A popular Kenilworth restaurant could have its alcohol licence revoked and faces a major fine after alleged illegal workers were found by Home Office Immigration investigators.

Nub News understands Indian Edge was raided in May last year and four Bangladeshi men were arrested for working breaches.

The case remains with the Home Office civil penalty compliance team (CPCT), but a review of the premises licence has been prompted at Warwick District Council.

"Home Office Immigration have grounds to believe the license holder has failed to meet the licensing objectives of prevention of crime and disorder, as illegal working has been identified at this premises," a notice from the council said.

Every premises with a licence to sell alcohol has to meet the objective of preventing crime and disorder.

The review was triggered in September and local residents and agencies have until October 15 to comment.

After this, a licensing and regulatory committee hearing will be arranged at the Town Hall to review the premises licence.

Unlike normal committee meetings, this is expected to be held in private.

Last year, three Bangladeshi men were arrested at Indian Edge for working in breach and another Bangladesh male was arrested for breach of bail.

All were bailed and a notice of liability was issued to the CPCT.

The Home Office was unable to provide further information on the case, but a spokesperson said in a statement: "Illegal working undermines honest business, exploits vulnerable individuals and fuels organised immigration crime.

"More than 17,000 illegal working arrests have been made since July 2024, a 122 per cent increase on the two years previous, with almost 25,000 visits carried out across the country, a 111 per cent increase."

Civil Penalty Notices include a fine of up to £45,000 per illegal worker for a first breach and up to a maximum of £60,000 for repeat offending.
