Warwick District Council has launched a consultation on its draft Homelessness Strategy for 2021-2026.

Since adopting the previous strategy in 2017, the council has made progress in enhancing and delivering services for people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

The council's efforts to support and accommodate all rough sleepers during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic have reduced the amount of rough sleeping, with the current provision helping to minimise the need for anyone to sleep rough on the streets.

The new strategy outlines the provision and preventative measures the council plans to put in place to ensure that this good work continues and is extended to reducing all forms of homelessness.

Warwick District Council's Portfolio Holder for Housing Services, Councillor Jan Matecki said: "I'm extremely proud of the work we have done since 2018, in particular, during the pandemic, when alongside voluntary agencies we provided secure accommodation for more than 80 individuals who were sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness.

"Our aim through this strategy is to make a temporary fix into a permanent solution, for the most vulnerable in our community."

"I would encourage everyone to read our draft strategy and submit their comments, suggestions or feedback; in doing this you will help us to shape our plans and approach to successfully tackling homelessness over the next five years and beyond."

The consultation closes on 7 March 2021.
