A Kenilworth pub is set to hold a litter pick this Sunday as part of the global Plastic Free July Initiative.

Staff at the Virgins & Castle will join members of the community from 10am on July 3 outside the pub to start collecting rubbish around the town, before heading back to the venue for a well-earned drink.

The event has been organised by team member Grace Slade and the Kenilworth litter pick is backed by Plastic Free Kenilworth.

It coincides with Plastic Free July - a global drive to reduce single-use plastics and create cleaner streets, oceans and communities.

The pub's sister venue - No.34 Garden and Grill, in Warwick - will also be hosting a litter pick on Sunday morning.

Grace, who works as wellbeing coordinator at Caviar & Chips (the pubs' owner), said: "We wanted to do something that would be part of Plastic Free July but also help the local area so this seemed like a simple but effective idea that will make a difference and show we really are part of the local community in both towns.

"We're hoping some members of the local community will come and join us, then we can all have a well-earned drink back at our pubs afterwards."

Caviar & Chips, which owns both venues as well as an award-winning catering firm and Shropshire-based boutique wedding venue Stockton House, says it puts sustainability at the heart of the business.

Caviar & Chips co-founder Marc Hornby added: "We take sustainability and looking after our environment incredibly seriously across our whole group. From large-scale infrastructure projects like replacing the old oil central heating with a wood chip burner system at Stockton House to using loose leaf tea at the Virgins & Castle and No.34 from local tea merchants Golden Monkey.

"In our catering business we work with our clients to create bespoke menus and we select seasonal ingredients as well as separating our waste, recycling and food to reduce our impact wherever we can.

"Grace has come up with two great events that not only enable our teams to get involved, but will hopefully make a difference in the local communities that have supported our venues since they opened."

The litter picks start at 10am on Sunday 3 July at both the Virgins & Castle in Kenilworth and No.34 Garden & Grill in Warwick.

There is no need to register, simply turn up with your enthusiasm for a good tidy.
