Kenilworth pub closes its doors six months after opening

A Kenilworth pub has closed its doors just six months after first opening under its new owners.

The Cottage Inn on Stoneleigh Road had already announced it would not be renewing its lease after March 2022 after receiving "vile" feedback from residents.

But just days after revealing the March closure, the pub has permanently shut and cancelled all reservations.

Owner Mick Griffin said: "We are closed except for the B&B.

"The manager was offered a job, but had to start straight away and it seemed a bit mean not to let her."

The announcement, which was made on Tuesday (November 23), means only the bed and breakfast will now remain open for bookings.

The pub, which has been empty for over a year, first opened under the new ownership in May 2021 after nearly £30,000 was spent on renovations. But now six months later the landlord - Charles Wells - is looking for new owners.

Speaking to Nub News last week, owner Mick Griffin hit back at the "small minded attitude" of some residents in the town that had prevented his business getting off the ground.

"Some of the people we have met have been great, the regulars have been fantastic. But it's the snipers who are the problem," he said.

"These are just small minded people who think they are right about everything but have never done anything with their lives.

"They're going to end up with a load of empty places, and that is what they deserve."

Despite the problems the pub has faced, it was full for its final open mic night on Sunday (November 21) night.
