Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.

Walkers Works

Major crisp manufacturer Walkers has been granted planning permission to build a new office block at its Middlemarch Business Park factory.

The Siskin Parkway West facility - which employs nearly 1,000 people - has been given the green light to demolish two two-storey portakabins to make way for a two-storey office and amenities block.

The scheme, backed by Baginton Parish Council, will also see landscaping around the site to "soften" the appearance.

Viaduct Discussed Again

Plans for HS2's Balsall Common viaduct labelled 'hideous' by residents will go back in front of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council next week.

The decision to grant planning permission for the 425 metre-long structure was deferred in July after HS2 was told it had not consulted residents properly.

The giant concrete viaduct will eventually ferry high-speed trains over floodplain land to the northeast of Berkswell Railway Station. Once finished, the line will connect London Euston with the Interchange Station at Arden Cross and Curzon Street in central Birmingham.

Appeal Dismissed

A planning inspector has dismissed an appeal to turn a derelict barn into a block of stables.

Warwick District Council (WDC) threw out plans to rebuild the collapsed Hammonds Barn near Kenilworth Castle last year, saying the scheme was inappropriate in the green belt.

The owners then appealed the decision for the Purlieu Lane site, saying the council's reasons "make little sense".

Battery Plans Recharged

An appeal has been lodged after district planners threw out plans to build a 49.9MW battery energy storage facility on the outskirts of Kenilworth.

Flexion Energy Storage UK - who put forward the scheme - said the development on farmland south of Banner Hill Farm would play a "critical role" in the rollout of renewable energy locally.

But Warwick District Council (WDC) refused to grant planning permission for the two-acre facility, saying it was "inappropriate development" in the green belt.
