Major crisp manufacturer Walkers has been granted planning permission to build a new office block at its Middlemarch Business Park factory.

The Siskin Parkway West facility - which employs nearly 1,000 people - has been given the green light to demolish two two-storey portakabins to make way for a two-storey office and amenities block.

The scheme, backed by Baginton Parish Council, will also see landscaping around the site to "soften" the appearance.

"The development will not lead to any adverse impact on the amenity of occupiers within the immediate vicinity of the site by reason of loss of light, outlook or privacy," a Warwick District Council report said.

"The wider site is occupied by commercial activities and there are no residential properties in close proximity."

Plans show the building will include conference rooms, offices, a physio room, screening area and occupational health suite.

Walkers - which makes Wotsits and Monster Munch - earlier this year announced a £58 million investment in its sister factory in Leicester.

Owner PepsiCo said the investment would see a new manufacturing line installed and existing machinery replaced.

Founded by Henry Walker in 1948, the company has been part of US food and drink giant PepsiCo since 1989.
