Kenilworth planning roundup: Vets, 291 homes and 'eyesore' community hall
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Vets Moves Forward
A planning application to turn an industrial unit in Kenilworth into a vets has been given the green light by council planners.
'Kenilworth Vets' has been given planning permission for a series of changes at the Bridge Works to repurpose the former furniture workshop.
New signage, entrance, doors and glazing have all been given the green light as the Farmer Ward Road scheme moves forward.
New Homes
Town councillors have voiced their objections to the latest phase of a major new housing estate under construction in Kenilworth.
Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) has objected to the latest application for Charles Church's major development at Thickthorn, which includes detailed proposals for 291 homes, a local centre and takeaway.
The housing developer has already been given outline permission for 550 homes on the Leamington Road site, with reserved matters applications already given the green light for the first 242.
Decade-Long Battle Continues
A village hall described as a "dreadful eyesore" looks set to be left sat empty after council planners refused to give it a new use.
JBC Property Developments had asked Warwick District Council to acknowledge the Meadows Hut in Stoneleigh is no longer designated for community use - the latest in a decade-long saga around the building.
The application said the building has been vacant since 2013, and claimed the past three owners have all tried to find a new use for it, as the timber structure is no longer suitable for public use.
