A planning application to turn an industrial unit in Kenilworth into a vets has been given the green light by council planners.

'Kenilworth Vets' has been given planning permission for a series of changes at the Bridge Works to repurpose the former furniture workshop.

New signage, entrance, doors and glazing have all been given the green light as the Farmer Ward Road scheme moves forward.

The application explained: "The existing raised loading bay will be used as the main entrance point and will require disabled compliant access steps up to the finished floor level of the unit.

"Level access for wheelchair use will be provided across the front of the adjacent unit. This has been discussed and agreed with the landlord and building control.

"A lightweight canopy will be constructed above the entrance to provide sheltered access from the weather whilst entering the building."

Signing off on the application, a council report said: "Officers are satisfied the proposed external alterations and installation of air con units would not have a harmful impact on the character and appearance of the area, nor the amenity of neighbouring properties."

Most recently the unit in question was home to Bespoke Cabins and Landscapes ltd.

Unit ten has recently been marketed by local agent Bromwich Hardy which said it had potential for a variety of uses.

The application continued: "It is the landlord's desire to continually improve the Bridge Works as a commercial premises and provide a pleasant and tidy environment for businesses to thrive.

"The opportunity to secure a long-term tenant into the premises will benefit Bridge Works as a whole but also supporting one of the few mixed use commercial premises in Kenilworth.

"It is considered that providing an easily accessible public facility within a highly accessible part of Kenilworth will ultimately benefit the town in general and its inhabitants (and pets) and therefore we hope the authority can support the proposals to facilitate this."

The approval follows a prior approval application for similar works which was withdrawn earlier this year.
