Kenilworth planning roundup: £50k tennis courts probe, 125 new homes and green corridor
By James Smith 7th Nov 2026
Here are three of the biggest local planning and development stories from the past week.
Tennis Court Investigation
Warwick District Council is set to spend £50,000 investigating whether the outdoor tennis courts at Abbey Fields can be restored, or whether they will need to be relocated elsewhere in Kenilworth.
The courts were used as a compound during the construction of the new swimming pools, which opened in July, but have yet to be reinstated.
The money will fund ground surveys and tests of a proposed 'no-dig' construction plan. Officers will then return to cabinet with recommendations on the next steps and potential costs.
Canalside Homes
Plans have been submitted for 125 new homes on land around Station Lane in Lapworth, close to the Grand Union Canal.
Mac Mic Strategic Land has applied to Warwick District Council for permission to build the estate, which would include a new junction off Kingswood Close.
Half of the homes would be designated as affordable housing, with the proposals also including a children's play area and green space.
Green Corridor
Kenilworth town councillors have unanimously backed a call for Warwick District Council to work with developers to create a green corridor through the large housing developments east of the town.
The proposed corridor would run from Crewe Lane to Leamington Road, with the aim of increasing biodiversity and providing an environment that supports health and wellbeing.
The motion calls on the district council to work with developers on a management plan and contact Natural England about declaring the land a Local Nature Reserve.
