Here are the biggest planning stories from the last week in and around Kenilworth.

HS2 'failing to respect human rights'

HS2 is "failing to respect the human rights" of local people according to a disgruntled Balsall Common resident.

Sheila Cooper's stark words came at a meeting of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council's HS2 implementation advisory group as she called on councillors to stand up to plans to send 400 lorries a day through Balsall Common.

"They and their contractors are failing to respect the human rights of residents to live their lives in peaceful enjoyment of their homes and possessions," she said.

Rejected application resubmitted

An application to build a single-storey extension at Hope Barn on Dalehouse Lane has been resubmitted.

The plans were rejected in July last year by Warwick District Council's planning committee.

The previous application received more than 20 supporting comments.

But it was refused because: "The proposed extension disrupts the simple form of the converted barn by reason of its scale and design and this detracts from the original rural character and appearance of the building."

Tree felling approved

Developers Vistry Homes are set to fell some trees in Budbrooke.

In total 14 trees will have works completed - six will be felled and others will have their crowns lifted.

Vistry Homes said this was for: "Public safety as the trees are adjacent to to public access areas.

"In addition access across the land takes place from dog walkers who may be subject to falling debris."

Padel courts and floodlights supported

Plans to build two new padel courts at Kenilworth Tennis, Squash and Croquet Club have been supported by local residents.

The application includes provision for eight more floodlights, an overflow car park and a bicycle rack.

The club hopes to attract up to 100 new members with the new courts.

Local resident Tom Parker has supported the application saying: "This is a fantastic opportunity to support the installation of a facility in Kenilworth for one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

"This will provide the residents of the town with further opportunity to stay active, or pick up a new sport that is playable for those of any age or standard.

"This should be welcomed."
