Kenilworth planning roundup: HS2 bridge, 5G mast and hundreds of houses

Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
5G Mast Pulled
Plans to install a new 5G mast on the edge of Kenilworth have been pulled after locals labelled the designs "ugly and obtrusive".
A swathe of objections were submitted to the application from Cornerstone Telecommunications Infrastructure Ltd which would have seen a 20-metre high monopole built on a verge along Leamington Road.
Cornerstone had already been refused planning permission for a pole on the same road, with Warwick District Council planners saying alternative sites had not been considered.Read more here
Hundreds of Houses
Councillors are set to make a decision on whether to approve hundreds of homes in Balsall Common next week after being delayed by a legal challenge.
Applicant Barwood Development Securities Ltd wants to build 250 homes – half of them affordable – on land at Pheasant Oak Farm, in Hob Lane off Waste Lane in the Solihull village.
The plans include a children's play area; community orchard and ecological areas; pedestrian and cycle access from Waste Lane and Windmill Lane to "enhance connection into the village" and a sustainable drainage system.
A46 Progress
Time-lapse footage shows the giant new bridge being slid into place along the A46 by HS2 near Kenilworth.
The dual carriageway has been closed from Coventry to Kenilworth since Friday 11 April for the major project.
Works so far have seen the road surface removed and the new bridge slid some 64 metres into place.
Still set to last until Thursday 1 May, the rest of the closure will allow HS2 to rebuild the road surface over the new bridge.
