Kenilworth planning roundup: Castle crossing, 10km pipeline and Station Road
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Castle Crossing
Kenilworth residents are being asked for their views on where a possible new crossing should be built near Kenilworth Castle.
The town council has been working with English Heritage and Warwickshire County Council to improve pedestrian access to the tourist attraction and has identified three potential options for where a crossing could be built.
As previously reported by Kenilworth Nub News, the Castle Road crossing could cost up to £85,000 and was included in the 2018 local plan.
10km Pipeline
Plans to build a 10km long pipeline in south Warwickshire have been handed a boost by district planners.
Severn Trent Water has been told it does not need to complete an 'environmental impact assessment' for the major project, with Warwick District Council (WDC) saying the scheme would only cause "temporary" disruption to the local area.
Plans show the water company wants to build the major pipeline from near Baddesley Clinton to its Hatton treatment works to help with a "taste and odour" problem identified in some local drinking water.
Station Road
Planned improvements along the closed section of Station Road are due to get underway this January, a Kenilworth councillor has confirmed.
County councillor Rik Spencer said work to raise the pavement at the former Warwick Road junction, replace the temporary planters with permanent ones, and install proper traffic bollards will all start this month – weather depending.
The redundant former signage will also be replaced and the tarmac road surface - which still has the old road markings on it - will be "replaced with a different material to create a more inviting and pedestrian-friendly environment".
