Kenilworth planning roundup: Abbey Fields, padel courts and homes under construction

Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.

Abbey Fields Underway (Again)

Work has started on site again today (March 18) building Kenilworth's new swimming pools.

Having announced in February that new contracts had been signed for the project, Warwick District Council (WDC) has confirmed construction for the new Abbey Fields Leisure Centre has resumed.

The construction - which is being managed by Kier - is now expected to take until the summer of 2026.

More Padel Courts

Kenilworth Tennis, Squash & Croquet Club has submitted plans to build two new padel courts - at the expense of one of its tennis courts.

Having had great success since installing two padel courts last year, the Crackley Lane club now wants to double the amount of space for the sport.

And, if approved, the new courts would also have a cover, meaning they could be used regardless of the weather.

Homes Under Construction

New photos taken this month have shown off the progress on a new 99-house development currently being built next to Kenilworth School.

Five-star rated house builder Miller Homes is well underway constructing its Southcrest Rise development off Glasshouse Lane.

Work began on site in late 2022, and the final homes are due to be finished by March of next year.
