Kenilworth planning roundup: 1,100 new houses, Abbey Fields and roundabout home
By James Smith 23rd May 2026
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
One Thousand New Homes
A housing developer is asking for local feedback on plans for 1,100 new homes between Leamington Spa and Kenilworth.
Taylor Wimpey has launched a consultation on early-stage proposals for the land to the west of Kenilworth Road.
The site is shortlisted for inclusion in the new South Warwickshire Local Plan, and is referred to as plot 'SG06' in the major planning document.
Abbey Fields
Council planners have given the go-ahead for the driveway to the Abbey Fields Leisure Centre to be widened to ensure emergency vehicles can access the site.
Warwick District Council's (WDC) planning team has said full planning permission is not needed for the works on the link from the swimming pools to Bridge Street.
Plans - which were also put forward by the local authority - show a passing place will be created near the road end of the drive, and 'verge reinforcement' will be installed along its length.

Roundabout Home
Councillors have given the go-ahead for a new home to be built on a busy Kenilworth roundabout despite the town council saying it is not safe.
Warwick District Council's planning committee this week approved an application for a bungalow on a plot of land behind Warwick Road, next to St Johns roundabout.
A previous scheme to build two houses there was withdrawn last year after concerns were raised about the design and the noise impact on local households.
