Kenilworth Lido Campaign group reiterates call for new outdoor pool following planning decision
Members of the Kenilworth Lido Campaign group have reiterated calls for a new outdoor swimming pool to be built in Abbey Fields following the decision to demolish the town's lido.
A decision was made last week by Warwick District Council's planning committee, with the current leisure centre set to be knocked down and replaced by two new indoor pools.
The group has said that there is space for a both outdoor and indoor swimming, and that a 25 metre outdoor pool could take advantage of "both maximum sunlight and views of the lake and castle".
They want a new lido heated with renewable energy to be open all year round.
The group also said it was "naturally disappointed" that the council have decided to knock down the current lido, especially given the degree of opposition within the town to the plans.
Nearly 130 objections had been submitted to the application.

The group also said that plans not to build the new indoor pools to net carbon zero standards means the building is "likely to require costly retro fitting in the near future".
A group spokesperson added: "A modern lido, heated with renewable energy, would be open all year round.
"Importantly it would provide the most up to date facilities for those with disabilities; would include a 'changing places' room and allow easy access to the outdoor pool by the inclusion of sloping ramp entrance.
"This would be so much cheaper to build and would mean WDC could avoid the embarrassment of breaching it's own targets for carbon neutrality by 2025."
