The Kenilworth History and Archaeology Society's (KHAS) 40th annual booklet 'Kenilworth History 2021: Research into Local History' is now available for purchase.

The 2021 edition includes the work of 10 different contributors, covering 17 different articles. Contributors range from first-time writers to regular authors.

The 40th edition also includes a hitherto un-published article from the late founder of KHAS Harry Sunley which explores whether one of the two stone coffins, found in excavations of the Abbey, might be that of Geoffrey de Clinton, founder of both the castle and the abbey in the 1120's.

Topics include; a possible, undiscovered Roman building locally, the 1844 visit of King Frederick Augustus II of Saxony to Kenilworth Castle, colonial-era Warwickshire-born settlers of the town of Killingworth, Connecticut to name but a few.

As well as being the 40th edition, 2021 also marks the 200th anniversary of the publication of Sir Walter Scott's novel 'Kenilworth'. To mark this Robin Leach has written an extensive piece about his visit to Kenilworth.

Also included is a fitting obituary for former KHAS chairman Mark Barnard.

Speaking to Kenilworth Nub News, editor of the KHAS booklet Chris Blunt said: "I'm glad to say that Kenilworth History is alive and well in these challenging times. Lockdown seems to have been extremely productive for our contributors.

"This year's Kenilworth History weighs in at 100 pages, which is about double the length of recent editions. That's hopefully plenty to keep our readers busy with!"

Kenilworth History 2021 is now available for purchase from Kenilworth Books in Talisman Square, which is currently offering local delivery.

It will also be available from the Abbey Museum & Heritage Centre, when it reopens, and it will be available for purchase at KHAS meetings, when they eventually re-commence. It is priced at £5 or free to members.
