Kenilworth Gang Show's community appeal as props and costume store set to be demolished
The Kenilworth Gang Show (KEGS) is appealing for help to find a new place to store its costumes and props as the current stores are set to be knocked down for up to 550 houses to be built.
The stores at Thickthorn have been used since 2006 but the hundreds of costumes and props must now be moved by the end of the year.
KEGS, which was set to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2021, will not hold another performance until 2023 and "celebrate in style" then.
The next performance will also be the 20th at Warwick Arts Centre and the first since the death of long time producer Phil Highley in December 2019.
KEGS is now asking local residents for help in finding a new location for its equipment. Help may also be needed for the demolition of the current building.
A KEGS spokesperson said: "There is the possibility of the costumes being housed in the new scout and guide centre, but props are still homeless, and a new scout and guide centre will not be ready by the end of the year.
"Kenilworth Gang Show has been there as an activity for the young people of Kenilworth for the last 50 years.
"Please help us keep this tradition going that has seen literally thousands of our youngsters appear on stage - including many of those who are now part of the team behind KEGS."
KEGS had originally fundraised in the early 2000's to purchase the building it currently uses. The spokesperson added that many of the people involved then are "devastated by the thought of KEGS now being homeless".
Anybody wishing to contact KEGS can do so through its Facebook page.
