Kenilworth Fire crews rushed to a chimney fire at a house on Park Road this morning (November 19).

Firefighters were called to the scene at 10.30am and found a birds nest on fire in the chimney stack.

The homeowner had cleared the chimney before installing a log burner but the nest had clearly fallen down from the top of the chimney onto the burner, starting the blaze.

Crews were able to put out the fire before it spread.

A Kenilworth Fire Station statement said: "Just before 10:30 this morning we were called to a chimney fire at a house on Park Road in Kenilworth.

"The residents had done the right thing this year by having their chimney swept before using the log burner, but unfortunately a bird has built its nest at the top of the chimney which fell down and caught fire.

"We removed the log burner and extinguished the fire in the chimney.

"If you have an open fire we recommend having a cowl fitted to the chimney pot to prevent fires like this occurring."
