Kenilworth ladies boutique offers discounts and drinks to celebrate tenth anniversary

By James Smith 25th Nov 2021

A Kenilworth ladies' boutique is offering discounts and inviting customers to enjoy a glass of Prosecco to celebrate its tenth anniversary in the town this weekend.

Antigo, on Warwick Road, first opened its doors on November 22 2011, and ten years on the business continues to thrive.

To celebrate, the shop is extending its opening hours today and tomorrow (November 21-22) and putting on drinks and snacks both days as well as offering a 10 per cent discount on all its products.

Whilst it has been in the town for a decade now, Antigo's history goes all the way back to 2002 when husband and wife team Craig and Eva Percy started a business selling antiques.

Craig, who met Eva whilst travelling in south east Asia, had sourced a lot of their products there before returning to the UK.

After deciding to go into business the pair began trading at local markets and then got a unit at Warwick Antiques Centre when it was on Swan Street.

They then opened a shop at the RICOH Arena shopping centre when it first opened in 2005, which they kept for 11 years.

After seeing that the old Kenilworth Weekly News offices on the high street were available they decided to open Antigo in Craig's home town.

Craig said: "I just knew that Kenilworth was the right place to do what we were doing; there is nowhere else quite like it."

During the early years of the business Antigo slowly changed from being an antiques retailer to a ladies' boutique.

"When I was in Hong Kong I had the idea of selling these fantastic antiques and unique pieces. That was easy when you were in Asia but not so much when you're in the UK," Craig explained.

"With just two of you, you cannot be running the retail and sourcing huge amount of stuff to come over."

Then after the economic crash in 2008 the home décor industry was in decline and the couple found themselves selling far more silver jewellery and women's clothing.

Despite the change in stock Antigo still prides itself on sourcing a range of products and has put this down to its success.

Craig added: "We offer something completely different and there isn't really anywhere around here that you can buy most of the products that we sell.

"I think we have a good eye for what works, and our pricing point means everything is pitched so that it is affordable.

"We certainly never envisaged it becoming a ladies boutique. And did we think 20 years ago that we'd have a nice shop like this in Kenilworth – probably not is the answer."

As Craig and Eva gear up to celebrate such an important milestone for their business they reflected on the past 20 years.

"I am really proud and really pleased that people are so supportive," said Eva.

"Craig and I never stop seven days a week, we are still sourcing new products and I am so proud that the shop we have now caters to such different tastes."

The support of the community, which both Craig and Eva said had been vital to their success, has even increased since the pandemic.

Craig said: "I think after lockdown people were just desperate to shop and support local. We have had no end of people saying 'we've lived in the town for 10 years and never been in' and now they're regular customers.

"And I think the success of the independent coffee shops in the town has also helped us. It really has been great to see."

So why not head down to Antigo today or tomorrow for a glass of Prosecco and to pick yourself up a bargain?
