Kenilworth firefighters were among a number of crews called to a lorry fire that caused the M6 to be closed throughout the night.

National Highways first reported the motorway was closed in both directions between junctions one and two at 9.50pm yesterday (May 8) warning the fire would take a long time to extinguish.

The blaze, from a lorry carrying wood, needed crews from Rugby, Lutterworth and the water carriers from Kenilworth and Coleshill to tackle it.

Warwickshire Police was also called to the scene, with the motorway not reopened until around 5.45am today.

Traffic caught in the closure was eventually allowed to pass the scene at around 1.30am.
