The A46 will need to closed for up to three weeks to install HS2's new bridge near Kenilworth.

As reported by Nub News, the high speed rail developer has already been given the green light for a new underbridge which will allow the dual carriageway to pass over the new rail line near the Stoneleigh junction.

The bridge is currently being built next to the road and is expected to be installed next year.

"To complete our work, there will be a full closure of the A46 Kenilworth Bypass in early 2025 for up to three weeks," an HS2 update said.

"A signed diversion route will be in place for road users during all closures."

During those three weeks, HS2 will remove the existing road surface and slide the bridge into place and then build a new road over the top.

An exact date for this has yet to be confirmed, with HS2 simply saying it will happen in 'spring 2025'.

However, HS2 has also announced it needs to complete a number of "preparatory works" over the coming months.

Between May and October contractors will be widening the embankment next to the carriageway, realigning drainage and installing CCTV to "monitor the flow of traffic".

To complete this, the northbound carriageway between the Thickthorn roundabout and A45 Stivichall Interchange will be closed overnight on 21 May from 8pm until 6am on 22 May to install the "temporary vehicle restraint system".

The southbound carriageway between A45 Stivichall Interchange and Thickthorn roundabout will be closed overnight on 22 May from 8pm until 6am on 23 May to install the "temporary vehicle restraint system".

HS2 will also extend the lane one closure currently in place by Warwickshire County Council (WCC), from Stoneleigh junction to Thickthorn roundabout during the overnight closure.

WCC will have further lane closures in place around the Stoneleigh junction as part of the works on the new roundabout and bridge.

Lane closures will continue until at least October.
