Kenilworth fire crews were called to a flat fire in Warwick caused by an unattended candle on Tuesday (September 28).

Crews said that an open window allowed curtains to be blown into the candle and start the blaze.

The on-call crew from Kenilworth joined two Leamington crews to extinguish the Coventry Road fire.

The first call was received at around 1.30pm on Tuesday afternoon.

Two firefighters were sent into the first floor flat wearing breathing apparatus.

A Kenilworth Fire Station spokesperson said: "Crews remained in attendance for some time cutting away and damping down ensuring the fire was fully extinguished.

"The cause of the fire was down to a candle being left unattended, an open window blew curtains onto the candle starting the fire."
