Kenilworth cricket nets makeover pulled despite support from locals

Plans to replace the cricket nets and equipment store at Kenilworth Cricket Club have been pulled despite the backing of Kenilworth Town Council.
Earlier this year, the Warwick Road community club submitted an application to Warwick District Council for a makeover of its current facilities.
KCC said its existing nets are "no longer fit for purpose" and will be replaced with a "modest and proportionate enhancement".
The application received notices of support from local residents as well as Kenilworth Town Council, but was this month withdrawn from consideration.
The club has not given a reason for this.
The scheme would have seen the existing nets and storage building demolished and replaced.
"As with most community sports clubs, there is an ongoing need to maintain and enhance facilities in order to sustain the club's vitality and long-term viability, ensuring that future generations can continue to benefit in the same way as previous ones," the application said.
"The proposals align with national and local planning policy objectives which seek to protect and enhance sports facilities, promote healthy lifestyles, and support community infrastructure.
"The development will safeguard and improve an established sporting use, ensuring it remains accessible, functional, and fit for purpose."
While the scheme did receive some local support, there were also multiple objections.
These related to the location of the store and its appearance.
