Kenilworth Castle will not open this weekend as a weather warning has been issued ahead of Storm Darragh.

English Heritage announced the town's main tourist attraction will not open on December 7 or 8, as 60mph winds are predicted.

Kenilworth's Christmas Market on Saturday has also be postponed, and the markets in Warwick and Leamington Spa over the weekend have also been cancelled.

An English Heritage statement said: "Due to high winds, Kenilworth Castle will be closed on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 December.

"Father Christmas will unfortunately also not be able to go ahead.

"We know this will be incredibly disappointing.

"As a historic building with large trees and historic masonry Kenilworth Castle is particularly vulnerable to high winds and it simply isn't safe to open the grounds to visitors.

"Your booking will be automatically refunded and there is no need to contact us.

"We're very sorry for the disappointment this will have caused, and we hope to see you at Kenilworth Castle soon."
