Local businesses are being invited to take part in a 'People's Street Party' to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this June.

Kenilworth Town Council announced earlier this month that it intended to close Warwick Road on Friday 3 June to host the event.

Abbey Fields was originally suggested but councillors pointed out the park is about to become a construction site for the new swimming pool.

Alongside a shop window competition and market in Talisman Square, the council is encouraging local businesses to get behind the celebrations on Kenilworth's main road.

A letter from Cllr Richard Dickson said: "Let us know if and how you will be marking the Jubilee.

"For example, will your business stay open on the day? If you have a shop window, will you decorate it to mark the occasion."

Kenilworth's street party will take place between 11am and 4pm on the Friday of the Jubilee weekend, in between events in Leamington Spa and Warwick.

When discussing the event councillors said it was the perfect chance to encourage local engagement.

"I hope that businesses on Warwick Road and in the area would welcome a mass event of some sort," said Cllr James Kennedy at February's finance and general services meeting.

"It would also be great to see Talisman Square involved as they have had great success in hosting a couple of events recently."
