June update on Glasshouse Lane roadworks: scheme won't be finished before new Kenilworth School opens
Roadworks along Glasshouse Lane are expected to continue into October, the latest update by Warwickshire County Council has confirmed.
The scheme along the road will see new cycle lanes, toucan crossings and an access road built.
A 20mph speed zone will also be created in front of the new Kenilworth School, with speed humps and cushions installed.
Warwickshire County Council's contractor CR Reynolds Ltd began work on site in April but is not expected to be finished until the autumn.
As a result the firm will focus on the areas immediately around the school entrances initially. The rest of the works will be completed during the start of the autumn term.
Completed works to date:
- The site compound is in situ.
- Trial holes to locate services are being conducted in the north side of the verge.
- Vegetation - site clearance work ahead of the excavation activities.
- Footpath/cycle path works complete to basecourse Chainage 225-340 Glasshouse Lane.
- Footpath/cycle path works complete to sub-base Chainage 70-225 Glasshouse Lane.
- New drainage - road gullies installed chainage 225-340 Glasshouse Lane.
- Installation of traffic signals chambers, ducting and toucan crossing works.
- BT Telecoms structures removed on east side of Glasshouse Lane.
- Topsoiling to verges against the part-completed footpath.
The update says some elements of the scheme are already being delayed due to "everal unforeseen service connections" which need to be lowered.
The council is also consulting locals on the Dencer Drive toucan crossing design and the new Dencer Drive/Leyes Lane junctions.
The long-term works will include:
- Construction of a separate access with right turn lane onto Glasshouse Lane.
- Construction of new shared footways / cycleways along Glasshouse Lane, Leyes Lane and Dencer Drive.
- Installation of two toucan (pedestrian and cycle) crossings on Glasshouse Lane.
- Installation of a traffic signal junction at Dencer Drive / Leyes Lane with pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities.
- Creation of a 20mph zone on Glasshouse Lane along the school frontage.
- Raised humps and speed cushions on Glasshouse Lane along the school frontage.
- No waiting restrictions on Dencer Drive and Leyes Lane to protect the new signals from indiscriminate parking.
All of the above works are being carried out under a S278 Agreement which has been signed between the developer, Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust and Warwickshire County Council.
Keep up to date with the works here.
