A Kenilworth pet shop is set to close this March - but it is not the end for the independent local business.

It's a Dog's World and Friends will shut its Talisman Square premises at the end of March, but has big plans to launch an online shop and keep its grooming services going.

The popular shop was opened in the town centre in April 2022 by former Kenilworth School pupil and animal-lover Lauren McDonnell.

The premises came on the back of Lauren's entrepreneurial success during the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 when she baked cakes for dogs and sold them online under the name 'It's a Dog-Eat-Cake World'.

This branched out into making more items for dogs before she opened the shop at the former Charles Ager until nearly three years ago.

And while the shop will close in March, the business will continue to operate - with more announcements due in the coming weeks.

"The groomers will be carrying on after March; but at the moment, we are still unsure as to where exactly this will be," a notice in the shop window said.

"We will still be in Kenilworth and are making sure we have all of our customers' contact numbers so we can get in touch with you all when the time comes when we find out what's happening and where our new groom will be located.

"Regarding the shop; it will sadly be closing but we plan to take it online, do deliveries and collections…and you'll see us at lots of different markets throughout the year.

"We have lots of sale items in store that are still going all out when Valentine's Day comes along, so make sure you still pop in and make the most of our shop over our last few months."

The property has been listed as available to let for a number of weeks with local property agent Wareing & Co.

The listing currently says the unit is 'under offer' but it has not yet been announced what will take over the space.

"Thank you for your continued support, custom and lovely thoughts and comments," Lauren's notice continued.

"We appreciate every one of you and look forward to seeing you in the shop during the time we still have in Talisman Square and seeing what the future holds for the business."
