Access improvements have been signed off the University of Warwick's "flagship" conference centre.

Planning permission has been granted for a new access road to the Scarman Conference Centre, as well as a new servicing yard and coach layby.

Plans - signed off last month by Warwick District Council - also include tree planting elsewhere on campus for "mandatory biodiversity net gain".

"The Scarman Conference Centre is the University's flagship conference facility and provides facilities for conferences, meetings and events on the university campus for use by the university departments and external organisations," the application said.

"It is made up of two linked buildings providing conference, meeting and catering facilities together with bedrooms for overnight visitors."

The new link road would be created off Scarman Road.

Lighting is proposed for the eastern side of it.

The university said the road would also benefit the new social sciences quarter which it already has planning permission for.

The application added: "The proposed development will result in an improved pedestrian and vehicular environment for this part of the university campus as part of the university's wider approach to maintaining accessibility through and around the campus for all users, especially sustainable non car modes, and keeping car parking on the periphery of the campus.

"The proposed landscaping and tree planting will enhance the environmental and visual amenity of the campus."
