HS2 and the county council have confirmed works on the bridge to carry the A46 over the new rail line will not start until the new Stoneleigh junction is finished.

That is according to a report presented to Kenilworth Town Council last week, following a meeting with councillors and HS2 contractors.

Warwickshire County Council's £38 million works at the Stoneleigh junction continue to be hit with delays, with the project now nearly two years behind schedule.

Eventually the scheme will see a new bridge and roundabout built, but little movement has been made in the past six months, with supply issues being blamed for the delays.

Meanwhile HS2 has now been given planning permission for an overbridge which will take the dual carriageway over the new rail line, around 100 metres south of the junction.

But with the town council continuing to press both the local authority and the high speed rail developer to properly coordinate road closures, councillors have been told the projects will not happen at the same time.

"A46 junction - both WCC and HS2 confirmed that it is still planned that the A46 improvements will be completed before the HS2 works start in Q1 2025," the council report said.

The report also showed the Dalehouse Lane cycle scheme is "still in the pipeline" but needs a feasibility study and funding options to be considered to be "shovel ready" for WCC agreement.

It added: "WCC Highways used recent works at Glasshouse Lane, Leyes Lane and Dencer Drive as an example of good practice to demonstrate their commitment to minimising disruption to Kenilworth residents.

"Given ongoing road safety issues in this area, Cllr Richard Dickson questioned the appropriateness of this example."
