House part of Kenilworth hotel's demolition plans put up for sale
A "quirky" Kenilworth house which has been subject to multiple applications to be demolished - including one which remains ongoing - has been put on the market.
Town councillors recently said they had no reason to object to the latest scheme to redevelop no 151 Warwick Road, which could see the home knocked down to make way for two new houses.
The application was the latest in a string of attempts to repurpose the house and the neighbouring Peacock Hotel.
But now the owners appear to be hedging their bets, with the three-bedroom house put on the market with property agent Shortland Horne for £850,000.
The brochure describes the property as: "A superb opportunity to purchase a three bedroom detached home sitting on superb plot in the heart of Kenilworth.
"The property is within walking distance to the high street, local shops, amenities and Kenilworth train station.
"Supermarkets like Waitrose, Sainsburys just up the road with a plethora of good restaurants, pubs and bars.
"This property has huge potential to extend further to make a superb family home and is also offered with the benefit of no upward chain."
Planning permission has already been granted to demolish the house and the hotel in unison to make way for four houses and five apartments.
However, the fresh proposal submitted to Warwick District Council is just for no. 151 and says the previous demolition plans have been put on hold, with the hotel and Malaysian restaurant inside set to remain open.
The planning application describes the house as a "modern albeit quirky" build.
It also says the new homes would be set back from Warwick Road, and would allow for a wider road into the hotel's car park.
