Town councillors said they have no reason to object to the latest application to redevelop a Kenilworth hotel and the house next door.

Planning permission to demolish the Peacock Hotel and the adjacent home was approved earlier this year, with the scheme set to see four houses and five apartments built.

However, a fresh proposal submitted to Warwick District Council says the demolition plans have been put on hold, with the hotel and Malaysian restaurant inside set to remain open.

Instead, permission is now sought to demolish a single house on Warwick Road (number 151) to make way for two new homes.

The application describes the property as a "modern albeit quirky" build.

And while members at Kenilworth Town Council raised a number of small issues around the designs of the replacements, they chose not to object to the application.

“I didn’t think there was any reason to object,” said Cllr Andrew Milton.

“One thing I would say though is about the comment from the neighbours about the height of the roof and I would draw planning officers attention to that.”

The application says the new homes would be set back from Warwick Road, and would allow for a wider road into the hotel's car park.

“My only other concern was the way they are treating the cars, the parking is to be at the front of the property having previously been at the back,” Cllr Kate Dickson added.

“As a comment, we need to make sure vehicles can enter safely.”
