An historic steam express is set to head back through south Warwickshire this weekend.

The ever-popular Shakespeare Express will chart its usual route from Birmingham to Stratford-upon-Avon on Sunday 26 July.

As in previous trips, the steam special will pass through Hatton and Henley-in-Arden on its route through Warwickshire.

The next excursion is expected to be hauled by either 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe or 7029 Clun Castle.

Organisers Vintage Trains said: "Journey from the heart of Birmingham through beautiful Warwickshire countryside to the historic market town of Stratford-upon-Avon.

"Your vintage steam train travels at express speeds along the Shakespeare Line or Chiltern mainline, passing stations with their original Great Western Railway features.

"You'll have approximately 4.5 hours in Stratford-upon-Avon to explore at your leisure. Enjoy lunch by the river, browse the shops, or discover the history of William Shakespeare's birthplace. There's something for everyone before your return journey."

The express is due to depart Birmingham Snow Hill at 10.39am and reach Stratford at 11.44am. It will then head north again at 4.13pm, reaching Snow Hill at 5.12pm.

In between it will head back to Birmingham to pick up more passengers before getting back to Stratford at 3.10pm.
