Hatton would be building site for 20 years if 'catastrophic' housing plan goes through
By James Smith 4th Feb 2026
A residents' group opposing plans for thousands of new houses in Hatton has said the village will be a construction site for over two decades if the plans are approved.
Hatton is one of 12 potential 'new settlement' locations being considered for the new South Warwickshire Local Plan (SWLP) - a major planning document which will outline the development of the region for the next 25 years.
Land promoters are pushing for some 666.66 acres of land in Hatton to be allocated for housing in the plan, which could see up to 8,000 homes earmarked there.
Following a recent public meeting, residents group Keep Hatton Station Rural (KHSR) has shared its disappointment with the plans which it says would be "catastrophic" for the area.
The group has also shared a masterplan for developing Hatton which Turley has shared. It shows the land would be developed in three phases which could last until 2053.
"Hatton Station will potentially be living directly next to a building site from 2030 to 2053," the group said.

It added: "Building housing in such a beautiful and historic landscape would obliterate it forever.
"It is utterly pointless to maintain that trees and hedgerows would be retained or restored: the openness, the tranquillity, the lovely views from the canal and PRoWs, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike, would be destroyed.
"Where is the 'evidenced local need'?
"How can our tiny, rural settlements "need" 5,250 houses?"
The meeting was attended by Turley - a land promoter pushing for a large chunk of the land in Hatton to be developed - as well as planning officer at Warwick District Council Philip Clarke and members of the public.
The SWLP is being created by Warwick and Stratford-on-Avon District Councils together.
The much-delayed document is yet to be finalised, but will ultimately govern where some 35,000 houses are built in the region.
MP for Kenilworth and Southam Sir Jeremy Wright has also said Hatton is not suitable for being turned into a new settlement.
