Local Green Party members gave up their Saturday morning to clean up a section of the Kenilworth Greenway and make it safe for cyclists again.

Last year the group took action to clear the brambles encroaching on the cycleway, with HS2 works preventing University of Warwick maintenance teams from accessing it.

Volunteers said the local landowner had previously paid little attention to the neglected strip, until this year as the land is now up for sale.

Over the past few weeks the hedges along the greenway have been flailed meaning the path was covered in hawthorns, brambles and branches.

And with the covered path therefore making it dangerous for the many cyclists who use the connection to reach the university, six Green party members spent last Saturday on the Greenway with brooms and spades clearing the debris.

The shared use path has now been restored to an "excellent" condition.

Town Councillor Mark Stevens who was involved stated: "It is very satisfying to get this path back to its full width as this provides the space for all users to share this busy route safely".
