The Myton Hospices has been given £2,500 to help pay for nurse visits to provide end of life care for patients in their homes.

And with the pandemic seeing more people receive end of life care at home, the grant will "make a real difference" in funding 25 visits from the Myton at Home team.

The charity is one of 163 groups in central England to receive a share over £170,000 from the Co-op in the last 12 months.

Groups were able for between £100 to £5,000 every two months to support all manner of projects.

"We are delighted to have received a grant for £2,500 from Central England Co-operative's Community Dividend Fund," said director of income generation and supporter engagement Charlotte Ingram.

"The money will be used to fund 25 visits from our Myton at Home team so that patients and families can get the support they need in their own home.

"During the global pandemic we have seen more people preferring to receive end of life care at home so this money will make a real difference at a time when it is needed most."

The fund, which is now open again for applications in 2022, aims to "create a sustainable society" that benefits the local community.

"We are delighted to share these funds with these amazing groups and cannot wait to see how they use it to benefit their local community," added Jim Watts, Co-op society secretary.

"I would like to urge all of our members to get in touch and put forward a community cause close to their heart for the Community Dividend Fund scheme during the coming 12 months."
