Future of Kenilworth skatepark could be shaped by town's young people
How to spend thousands of pounds on Kenilworth's skatepark could be guided by the young people that use it, with the support of the town council.
A group of 15 young people attending a meeting at the Kenilworth Centre on Sunday, February 20 to share their views on how the park should be renovated.
The meeting was the first step towards Kenilworth Town Council investing CIL money into revitalising the community space.
Speaking at last week's town council meeting Cllr Andrew Milton said: "It was a very enthusiastic group with lots of energy and positive ideas for both the skate park and the pump track.
"There was a really good discussion and lots of really good practical ideas for what people are looking for and how we can develop things in a way that actually require less maintenance and would have some longevity for the future."
The next step for the council is to seek options for the design and then start to understand costs before a proposal is brought forward for funding.
Cllr Milton also praised groups that used the skate park for their commitment to making it a real community space.
"It was interesting to think that the group at the skate park, over a period of eight to ten years, have fundraised about £80,000 from various sources, so they are very dedicated to supporting that community asset.
"It would be great for us to support them."
At the same meeting KTC also approved a £27,500 budget to convert a footbridge over the railway line for cycling access.
Another £10,000 was also approved from the CIL budget for a feasibility study into moving the 30mph speed limit on Warwick Road.
