Local residents have been left frustrated after being repeatedly "cut off" from local buses whenever there are roadworks.

Nub News was contacted by readers who said whenever there are roadworks locally, buses are diverted or do not stop, without ample warning.

Passengers said they have been left frustrated that bus stops have been temporarily suspended without notice, meaning they either cannot get on a bus, or are forced to walk a long way when getting off.

In particular, complaints were made about the around the X17 being disrupted in Park Hill, Leyes Lane, Rawnsley Drive, Dencer Drive.

Stagecoach - which runs the Coventry to Warwick route - told Nub News the issues were only temporary.

"There's no notice to say the bus stops along Rawnsley Drive into Leyes Lane have been suspended, so people who don't drive and rely on this bus to get into town or further afield are left without transport," one reader told Nub News last week.

"This really is not good enough!

"Yesterday myself and three other passengers had to get off the X17 bus on Common Lane, with no prior warning by the driver, who, when asked by me, said this disruption could go on for weeks or months for all he knows.

"We had to navigate crossing the busy road to the bottom of Knowle Hill and then walk up the steep hill to Hidcote Road -this is absolutely not good enough for older people who are left stranded and cannot walk easily."

Passengers criticised Stagecoach for running a "very unreliable service" and taking buses out of service "as and when".

They said the issue is not likely to go away with the "multitudes of roadworks suddenly appearing".

Town councillors in Kenilworth have continued to press for better co-ordination between local organisations over roadworks in the town.

In response, Mark Whitelocks, managing director of Stagecoach Midlands, said: "On a number of occasions this week, our buses have been forced to go on diversion because of disruption caused by roadworks in the area, which unexpectedly overran and caused local roads to become blocked due to congestion.

"My team work extremely hard to minimise the effect of this disruption, keep our loyal customers updated with alerts, and get our services back on their normal routes as soon as the disruption allows."
