A former Kenilworth School teacher is set to undertake a huge cycle from the London Eye to the Eiffel Tower this September for two worthy causes.

Aaron Moloney and friend Ziyad Azad will undertake the near-350km ride on September 15 to raise funds for British Thyroid Foundation and Kidney Research UK.

The pair say they are using a "tough time" last year to inspire their fitness journey and to "make something positive out of a tough situation".

"Both of these causes are deeply personal to me," Aaron said.

"My grandad, who was previously fit and healthy, sadly passed away last year due to a rare kidney disease.

"It's a condition that isn't well understood, and I hope the money we raise can go towards researching these less common illnesses to help others facing similar struggles.

"Other members of my family are also currently living with ongoing rare kidney problems.

"On top of that, last year I found a lump in my thyroid. At just 26, it's not very common for males my age to develop thyroid nodules, and the only way mine could be properly diagnosed was through surgery to remove half of my thyroid.

"Thankfully, it turned out to be a benign tumour - but it took over seven months of uncertainty, biopsies, and numerous appointments to find that out.

"It was a scary and challenging time, and I know that many others go through the same experience."

Kenilworth resident Aaron says he is "incredibly grateful" to the NHS for its support and wants to raise not only vital funds, but also awareness of thyroid and kidney conditions.

The duo have already raised over £1,000, with three weeks left until the cycle challenge.

"Ideally, with more knowledge and resources, diagnoses can become faster and less invasive in the future," Aaron continued.

"We're using this challenge not only to push ourselves physically, but to raise awareness and funds for the amazing work these charities do.

"If you'd like to support us, we'd really appreciate any donations - big or small.

"Thanks so much for the support!"
