Two fires were 'deliberately' started on Kenilworth Common yesterday (April 25) according to fire crews.

At around 8.00pm last night crews from Kenilworth Fire Station were called to deal with two fires on Kenilworth Common.

Fire crews were able to easily deal with the incidents, however they have warned that the fires could have spread easily given the dry conditions.

Crews also warned that small and avoidable call outs like this can put people's lives at risk should a more major incident occur at the same time.

A statement from Kenilworth Fire Station yesterday said: "Just before 8.00pm this evening [Sunday 25] we were called to our second incident today, to reports of a fire on Kenilworth Common.

"We located two deliberately set fires on the common. We used buckets of water and a water backpack sprayer to extinguish the fires.

"With the recent dry weather fires like this can spread fast and get out of hand, also whilst we are dealing with these nuisance fires we aren't available to attend emergencies where people's lives may be in danger."
