With just days to go until Valentine's Day, the team at Dogs Trust Kenilworth is hoping that a dog who has been with them for more than four years will find his ideal partner.

Eleven-year-old Greyhound, Charlie, who celebrates his 12th birthday on February 14, first arrived at the Honiley rehoming centre in 2015 and went on to spend three happy years in a loving home.

But he sadly found himself back in their care in April 2018 following a change in the family's circumstances.

After being lavished with love by his carers for the last four Valentine's Days, the senior pooch is wishing for a sofa to call his own and hopes he'll be lucky in love when it comes to finding a new family as the most romantic day of the year approaches.

Emma-Jane Thomas, rehoming centre manager at Dogs Trust Kenilworth, said: "Charlie is such is a lovely boy who has lots of friends here at the centre.

"The volunteers love him because he walks so beautifully on his lead! But he has a sensitive side when it comes to certain situations, meaning he doesn't always show how brilliant he is on a first encounter with new people, and we think this may be why he has been overlooked for so long.

"We're looking for a really special home for Charlie, with a family who will be patient with him and be happy to visit him multiple times to build that bond and get to know him. So we are looking for owners who live fairly close by so they can make these trips on a regular basis."

The team say Charlie is an independent dog who likes his own space, especially when resting and doesn't like to be disturbed. So they are looking for a home where Charlie has his own private room, just for him, where he can retreat to if things get too much.

Emma added: "Charlie would thrive in a home where he knows he has a safe space to relax in. A nice garden for him to run around and spend some quality time with his family would be ideal, and once he's settled, his playful side will shine through.

"It is really sad Charlie has been overlooked by thousands of potential adopters as he has so much love to give. He'd thrive in an adult home, where all the love on offer can be lavished on him and there are no other pets to steal the limelight! Although he could walk alongside dogs on walks, once he's gained his confidence in his new environment.

"We would love him to find his very own special someone very soon. We know he will make a great companion in the right home and we're hoping that his ideal family gets in touch and fall in love with him this Valentine's Day."

Charlie is being treated for some ongoing medical issues which can be discussed with potential applicants. If you are interested in rehoming Charlie, or any of the dogs at Dogs Trust Kenilworth, please go to www.dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming to find out more.
