‘Do miracles happen?’ Continued delays to major Kenilworth roadworks project
By James Smith 29th Jul 2026
A Kenilworth councillor jokingly asked "do miracles happen" as the news of further delays to a major roadworks project were relayed to the town council.
Cllr Peter Jones' words came at the most recent Kenilworth Town Council meeting when it was revealed the works on the new Stansfield Grove roundabout had been pushed back once again.
The project will eventually see a new roundabout built on Glasshouse Lane, at the junction with Stansfield Grove and the new Stoneleigh View housing estate.
In an update, Cllr Mark Stevens said the 35-week project was to be pushed back until August at least, but the date was not set in stone.
After the meeting, Cllr Richard Dickson told Nub News: "We've been chasing for an update for these long delayed £1.2m works - which will help make use of Glasshouse Lane much safer.
"[They] have hit another snag.
"Unfortunately the plan to move a tree to allow the county council's flood risk management's preferred drainage design cannot be done.
"The district council says the tree has an amenity value.
"Bovis/Vistry are now creating a smallish redesign of the scheme which will have some cost implications."
The new junction on Glasshouse Lane was originally planned for 2024, before being pushed back to 2025 and then this year.
So far in 2026, the county council's online roadworks map has published scheduled start dates for March, April, May, June and August.
The four-arm roundabout will also include "footway and cycleway facilities" connecting to those already being built along Glasshouse Lane will be built..
Earlier this month, a Warwickshire County Council spokesperson told Nub News: "We understand the frustrations of the local community regarding the delays with the Stansfield Grove roundabout.
"We want to reassure residents that we are working proactively with the developer, Vistry, their designer and internal colleagues to review and confirm a minor design change that has become necessary before works start on site.
"We will confirm a commencement date as soon as possible."
