A housing developer which has just been granted full planning permission to build another 144 homes in Kenilworth has said it will have to pay over £12.5 million for local infrastructure works.

Persimmon Homes was given the green light for the second phase of its Kenilworth View development last month, by begrudging councillors who raised a number of concerns about the impact of the estate on local roads.

The site off Leamington Road will eventually see 550 houses built, with construction of the first 98 well underway.

Through legal agreements with the local councils, developers Persimmon and Charles Church will have to pay over £7 million towards local education, £4 million towards local highways improvements and over £1.5 million towards local healthcare.

Neil Williams, managing director at Persimmon Homes Central said: "We're proud to have secured approval to deliver our second phase at Kenilworth Gate.

"Our upcoming new community will bring a wide range of new benefits to the area, including major improvements to local roads, public open spaces, healthcare, and education.

"We'll continue to work closely with Warwick District Council throughout the build process to deliver on these commitments.

"This development will not only provide significant environmental and biodiversity enhancements but will also leave a lasting legacy of community benefits for the people of Kenilworth and the surrounding areas."

A planning application for the remainder of the homes and the much-debated spine road is expected in the coming weeks.
