Decision on new school holiday dates for Warwickshire to be made this week
By James Smith 28th Jan 2026
The councillor in charge of education across Warwickshire will make a decision on term dates for the 2027-28 academic year this week.
Cllr Wayne Briggs is due to sign off on the term dates this Friday (January 30) following an informal consultation with schools during the autumn.
Warwickshire County Council is responsible for setting the holiday dates for all community and voluntary controlled schools.
A report to be discussed on Friday said there are a number of "guiding principles" for setting the school days, including 195 days of term time and five teacher training days.
If approved, the calendar would see the school year start on Thursday 2 September 2027, following a teacher training day the day before.
The final day would be Friday 21 July 2028.
Children would break up for Christmas on Friday 17 December and return on Thursday 6 January following another teacher training day.

The consultation - which is not a statutory requirement - saw response from just 34 of the 303 schools contacted.
This was higher than the 23 the year before.
The proposed dates are "very similar" to those already adopted by Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Birmingham. Coventry, Gloucestershire and Solihull are "likely to have similar dates".
