Cyclists 'abused' in Abbey Fields amid confusion over new cycle path

Council officers are considering a quick fix to make the rules about cycling in Abbey Fields clearer.
Warwick District Council this year approved plans for the new cycle path through the town centre park, which will connect Bridge Street, the new leisure centre and Borrowell Lane.
But since the new Abbey Fields Swimming Pools opened with new bicycle parking in place, there has been confusion about where cycling is and isn't allowed.
Cllr Andrew Milton has asked colleagues at the district council to find a "quick way" to "make things clearer" with painted signage on the path from Bridge Street to the leisure centre.
"I have put a request into officers, which they are exploring at the moment, about the route that goes from Bridge Street to the pool," he told Kenilworth Town Council.
"I have had a couple of residents who have had abuse for cycling on that piece.
"Basically, they are cycling on it to get from Bridge Street to the cycle parking at the pool.
"It is still technically against the bylaws to do that."
Progress on actually completing the cycle path through the fields has so far been slow, with planning applications still needed before it can move forward.
