Town councillors have withdrawn their objections to plans to repaint the front of a popular Kenilworth café.

Kenilworth Town Council had originally objected to a planning application for Time for Tea's makeover, saying the colour was not in keeping with the local area.

The Castle Hill eatery had asked for permission to paint the windows and door frames of its grade II listed building black and white.

"We welcome the work being done to preserve this historic building," the town council's original objection said.

"However, we would object to the change in colour of the window frames to black, unless the conservation officer is able to reassure us that this colour is appropriate for this building in the conservation area.

"The committee felt that this change in colour was not in keeping with the street scene."

The café - which says the frontage is "desperate of repair" - has since submitted updated designs for the refurb, with a lighter colour suggested.

As a result of this, the town council has withdrawn its objection.

"Members are happy to withdraw their previous objection to this application based on the amended application," the updated response said.

The building the café is based from is currently on the market - but this will not affect the business, which is not for sale.

"The impact of replacing the window frame colour and paint, will be to restore the appearance of the front of the property to something much smarter and cleaner looking," the application said.

"The current colour is a grey/green which has started to rot and chip away.

"We are not changing anything that will take away the historic nature of the property. The frames in the past have been green & red.

"The colour we are looking to change to will be matte black and will be applied to the outer frames."
