Town councillors are once again set to ask their county colleagues for better coordination of roadworks and closures across Kenilworth.

Cllr Adrian Marsh was left frustrated by a response from HS2 to a question on road closures which effectively passed the baton on to Warwickshire County Council.

Currently there are several major closures for HS2 works in the area, including Dalehouse Lane and Cromwell Lane.

Cllr Marsh said the response from the high speed rail developer was "particularly unhelpful and bureaucratic".

"I can report I have a response to a question I raised to them at a meeting asking what steps are being taken to improve coordination with the county council, housebuilders and utilities," he explained.

"I think we all know there has been considerable disruption throughout the summer, which is understandable works take place during quieter periods.

"But I think we continue to experience a heavy number of temporary traffic lights across the town which causes considerable frustration.

"The response I have had from HS2, via Jeremy Wright's office, was that coordination is the responsibility of Warwickshire County Council.

"That was very enlightening and disappointing. In view of the impending disruption that is likely to take place in the months ahead on Glasshouse Lane, with the spine road, the Coventry Road and the A46, and Leamington Road, perhaps it might be another opportunity for the council to raise the issue of coordination among those causing disruption to residents, and perhaps try to make life easier for local residents and local businesses."

The town council is set to ask for a meeting with WCC to discuss the ongoing issues.

Members said roadworks is one of the main complaints they hear from residents.

Cllr Marsh said the response was not what the new chief executive had promised.

"[The response is] despite the assurances from the chief executive of HS2 last year that he would take a more pragmatic approach, rather than allowing his staff to hide behind gobbledygook," Cllr Marsh added.
