Councillors give green light for Mexican food van's street licence
By James Smith 31st Mar 2026
Councillors have granted a new street trading licence to a Mexican food truck in Warwick district.
Good Food Cartel Ltd has been given permission to diversify its business as it looks to tour the area and set up shop at spots across Kenilworth, Warwick and Leamington Spa.
Warwick District Council's licensing and regulatory panel granted the mobile licence on Monday (March 30).
The business is now allowed to operate until 8pm - later than the 6pm usually allowed by the council - and can stay in one place for up to two hours.
Usually mobile vendors can only stay in one place for 15 minutes, but this is generally applied to ice cream vans and similar businesses.
Speaking at Monday's meeting, applicant Michael Webber said: "I am applying for the licence to support our business throughout the year.
"We mainly work at large events, festivals, across the country which can be quite beneficial in the summer period however we struggle in colder months.
"The street consent will allow us to continue business in the local area supporting local communities but at the same time not struggling with bills mounting up over the quiet period of the winter and colder months."
Mr Webber assured councillors his van is turned of while serving and is "community friendly".
He said the "pilot project" comes as he believes "there is enough demand in the local area for our food".
In its application, Good Food Cartel Ltd says it wants to operate near local businesses to pick up lunchtime traffic, as well as at local pubs and venues in the evenings.
