Town councillors have backed a £125,000 spend to help deliver a "state of the art skatepark" at Kenilworth's Castle Farm.

Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) has been working for several years to help refresh the "tired" facility at the park.

Local skaters have already been engaged to help design a new facility, with the help of professional design company Wheelscape.

And now the project has been handed a boost as councillors last week voted to add £125,000 towards the cost of the project. This money will come from CIL contributions - money raised from housing developers to be invested in local infrastructure.

"Initially established over 20 years ago, the facility is now looking a little tired despite the best efforts of Warwick District Council, and users who have worked hard to keep the facility in good condition," a KTC report said.

"However, it is the nature of these modular facilities that over time they become more difficult to keep in good condition.

"Additionally the way that the site has developed, organically over time and with no overall masterplan, has meant that the riding experience is sub-optimal."

With the project predicted to cost around £300,000, the funding comes alongside £150,000 earmarked by Warwick District Council (WDC).

KTC said it has the support of its district colleagues on the project and wants to engage with the local skating community further.

"We are now in a position where we have significant support from WDC, both financially and in terms of officer time," the report continued.

"We have engagement from the skatepark community to assist with further fundraising.

"We now have the opportunity to move forward with this project and give the people of Kenilworth a state of the art skatepark that they deserve."

It is hoped the project will start in the summer and be completed over a few months.
