Groups in Coventry are staying tight-lipped about a possible parade to celebrate the Sky Blues when they come home from Wembley this weekend.

Coventry City FC will face Luton Town at the stadium tomorrow, Saturday 27 May, to decide who goes up to the Premier League.

The club made the crucial play-off final after a nail-biting match against Middlesbrough.

It led to calls for events to be held in the city paying tribute to the team when they come back on Sunday 28 May.

Coventry council leader Cllr George Duggins said officers would be working hard to make sure people can celebrate the Sky Blues' achievement.

Asked for more details, he said he'd like to see a parade and an informal reception.

"People will want to recognise the achievement of the team, irrespective of what happens," he said.

But he stressed this is his personal view and would be "subject to discussions."

A week later, no events have been confirmed, and further details aren't forthcoming.

Asked for an update, the council told us we should direct our enquiries to the football club.

When we asked Coventry City FC about a parade or other celebrations, we were told no comment would be provided at this time.

It looks like any plans for a parade or celebrations are only likely to be made public once the match is over.

But a separate statement from the council on a decision not to show the game on a big screen in Broadgate provides a clue.

This detail is at the end of the council's statement and suggests work is going on behind the scenes on how a Sky Blues' victory will be celebrated.

It says: "We know countless hospitality venues are showing the game for fans to come together and watch the match and we hope Saturday is another glorious day for Coventry City FC and the Sky Blue Army and that the fans can cheer them all the way to the Premier League.

"To that end, work is underway to see how such a fantastic achievement could then be celebrated as a city to welcome the team home."
