Plans to build speed bumps and introduce a 20mph speed zone around the new Kenilworth School have been signed off by Warwickshire County Council (WCC).

Works to improve safety measures near the school began in April and will eventually see new crossings and cycle lanes built.

And with roadworks continuing into the autumn, WCC has now confirmed plans to install up to 12 speed bumps and two speed tables along Glasshouse Lane.

The 20mph speed zone will also be extended to Edwards Grove and Denewood Way.

A new 20mph speed limit has already been in place along some of Glasshouse Lane, but it will only become a 'zone' once the traffic calming measures are also built.

"The speed cushions are being introduced to support the proposed 20 mph zone along Glasshouse Lane, adjacent to the new school site," the public notice said.

Residents were consulted on the plans.

Local councillors have continued to petition the county council to improve safety around the new school.

In particular local representatives have called for more safety measures along Knowle Hill.

And Kenilworth Town Council said it would write to Cllr Izzi Seccombe - WCC leader - calling for an 'urgent' meeting about cycling routes to the school.

More information can be found on the council website here.
